How do I get them off?
Any dentist or oral healthcare provider is able to easily remove the gem and buff/polish the tooth to remove any leftover adhesive. Gem Central does not do tooth gem removals at this time.
Does it hurt?
Nope! The procedure is similar to placing an orthodontist bracket on a tooth. Despite popular belief, there is NO DRILLING, NO HOLES, and NO PAIN at all.
Can I still receive routine teeth cleanings/whitening?
Yes. The dentist will conduct your cleaning as normal, even with the gems on. You can still have teeth whitening done, but the spot where the jewel will be placed is sealed by the composite. There will be no contact with food or drinks that can stain the enamel underneath the tooth gem/ jewel during the time it is on your tooth. The color of the enamel underneath the gem will be the same as before once the jewel comes off.
Can I brush my teeth normally?
The presence of the tooth jewelry will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric toothbrush within the first 48 hours, and to wait 12 hours after your appointment to use any toothbrush.
Will the tooth gem harm my tooth?
No! The jewel is bonded to the enamel without any drilling or harm. The procedure can be compared to the placement and removal of orthodontic brackets. When it is removed it’s simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to take away any remaining bonding material.
What if I have Invisalign? Can I have this done?
Invisalign is molded to the shape of your teeth & would not fit with the gem on the surface of your teeth. However, it is possible to get the gems installed on TOP of your Invisalign, which makes them conveniently removable.
What if I swallow the tooth gem in the event it falls off?
The jewels are tiny glass crystals, lab-created opal, or gold — 100% solid and nontoxic. They have no sharp edges. It will come out "the natural way" the same as it went inside your body.
